Napa 72, Wood 62

After suffering losses in their first two match-ups, the Indians prevailed Tuesday night at home to beat the Wildcats at Messner Gym. With the win, Napa is now tied with Wood for third place in the Monticello Empire League.

Freshman Maria O’Byrne scored a season-high 20 points and also grabbed four rebounds and blocked two shots. Nina Pardo added 16 points and two boards while Vanessa Priest chipped in 15 points, three offensive grabs and three steals. Bonnie Freeland nailed two 3-pointers to add to her eight points, Trella Chrisco snagged six steals to go with her four points and two boards and Kendall Pelfini pulled down seven rebounds.

Napa (12-15 overall, 8-6 MEL) hosts Vintage (15-11 overall, 9-5 MEL) in Big Game No. 3 on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Allie Davison added seven points, four rebounds, three steals and a block for Napa, Trella Chrisco had seven points, four rebounds and four steals, Nina Pardo supplied six points, seven rebounds and two steals, and Kendall Pelfini had two points, five rebounds and an assist for Napa (12-13 overall, 7-6 MEL).  More >>

Fairfield High’s girls basketball team continued its dominance in the Monticello Empire League by sweeping its second league opponent, Napa, 80-54 on Tuesday night at Messner Gym.

• Napa 49, Fairfield 28

The Indians continued their MEL win streak to 12 when they beat the Falcons at home Tuesday night. Noelle Roldan, Rachel Barbos, Maggie Wessell and Shannon Rankin all scored eight points for Napa while Roldon and Rankin grabbed six and five rebounds respectively.

Jacquie Stone added six points and five boards while Tatum Souza picked up 10 rebounds and Rayna Chrisco scooped up three assists.

Napa (23-1 overall, 12-0 MEL).

Crushers make it a Round 2 sweep
 
The tables were turned Friday night when Vintage’s girls basketball team beat its cross-town rival Napa 50-48 at home. It was the Crushers’ first Big Game win in the last eight matchups and head coach Dave Hollman’s first at the helm....more>>

Napa 44, Armijo 34

In Tuesday’s win over Armijo, Rankin had 10 points, Singer had eight, Roldan seven and Wessell six. Wessell had 10 rebounds and five assists, Souza had six rebounds, Rankin had five boards, and Taylor Willis had three assists and three rebounds for Napa (21-1 overall, 10-0 MEL).


Napa 53, Wood 38

Jacquie Stone lead the way for Napa with 14 points against Wood on Friday. Tatum Souza added 11 points, Shelby Singer and Shannon Rankin each had six points, Stone and Noelle Roldan each had three assists, Souza had seven rebounds and Rankin led the team with eight boards.
 

Napa 55, Armijo 46

Allie Davison had 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals as the Indians took a 43-27 lead after three quarters and cruised to the MEL victory on Tuesday at home. Vanessa Priest added 13 points and five boards for the Indians (6-4 MEL, 10-13 overall), Trella Chrisco nine points and four boards, Maria O’Byrne eight points and eight rebounds, and Nina Pardo six points and 10 rebounds.

Wood 53, Napa 48

The Indians (5-4 Monticello Empire League) fell to third place in the MEL after Friday night’s loss on the road.

“It was a really, really close game,” Napa head coach Darci Lewis said. “It was very, very physical. Our girls got really beat up — both teams — it was like a football game out there.”

Kendall Pelfini grabbed 10 rebounds, seven points and three steals, Allie Davison chipped in 11 points, four boards and four steals, Trella Chrisco added four points, four rebounds and three steals, Nina Pardo scored nine points and picked up seven boards and two steals while Vanessa Priest came through with 12 points, five rebounds and a steal.
 

 


Indians grind out victory

Napa High’s girls basketball team earned a win Thursday night but it didn’t come as easily as the Indians thought. In the end, Napa beat the Vacaville Bulldogs 37-28 at Messner Gym to post a 5-3 Monticello Empire League (9-12 overall) record and solidify a second-place tie in the MEL.

Allie Davison, usually a guard but playing in the post while Nina Pardo was out ill, scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Indians gave the first-place Falcons one of their toughest games of the season.

"I’m really proud of the girls,” said Napa coach Darci Lewis, whose team trailed by one point early in the fourth quarter. “You never know how they’re going to come out against a team like Fairfield that is very athletic, very quick and coached well, but they didn’t show any fear.

“They came out and put it all out on the floor and did an excellent job.”

Make it seven in a row for the Napa High girls basketball team. The Indians held the Vintage Crushers to just one point in the first quarter on their way to a 50-42 win in the season’s first Big Game at Messner Gym.  More >>

Jackie Stone led the Indians with 14 points while Shannon Rankin chipped in eight points and seven rebounds. Cierra Young scored 13 points for the Crushers.
 

Freshman Girls

Dianne Empleo notched 17 points to lead Vintage in Friday night’s Big Game victory. Frances Bactad and Gillian Elayda added 14 and eight points, respectively.

Napa’s Delana Miller led her team with 14 points, while Alex Robben chipped in eight points and five boards.

Wood 62, Napa High 49

Kendall Pelfini had a big all-around game for Napa (6-10 overall, 2-2 MEL) with 15 points, six rebounds, five blocked shots and four assists Friday night. Bonnie Freeland had nine points and three rebounds, Vanessa Priest had eight points and three rebounds, Trella Chrisco had three rebounds and four points, and Nina Pardo had four blocks and three rebounds.

Wood 50, Napa High 36

Delana Miller led all scorers with 10 points and finished with two rebounds in Friday night’s MEL game. Amanda Garcia had seven points and two rebounds. Alex Robben and Tay Langfitt both played well for Napa (1-2 MEL).

Napa High 54, Vacaville 43

For Napa (1-1 MEL, 7-6 overall), Tay Langfitt, Claire Trousseaux and Maddie Arbios all had 10 points, Alex Robben had six points and six rebounds, and Amanda Garcia had nine points and three rebounds.
 

JV Girls Basketball
Napa 52, Wood 26

The Indians doubled up the Wildcats Friday and improved to 15-1 overall on the season, including a perfect 4-0 mark in the MEL.

Noelle Roldan led the Indians with 16 points, while Gina Solis added six.

Taylor Willis, Shelby Singer and Maggie Wessell each added five points.

Singer, Shannon Rankin and Tatum Sosa tied for the team high with six rebounds each.
 

Balanced scoring helps Napa girls improve to 2-1 in MEL

The Napa Indian J.V.'s are on a roll this season notching their 12th and 13th overall win this week and jumping to 2-0 in the MEL. League win No. 1 came on Tuesday at home against Armijo — a win where everyone contributed.

Shannon Rankin scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Noelle Roldan scored eight points and added five boards. Rachel Barbos had four points and five rebounds, Taylor Willis scored nine points, Shelby Singer grabbed three boards, three assists and four points while Jacquie Stone came up with six points and four rebounds.

Against Fairfield in Friday’s road matchup, Stone led Napa with 20 points and five rebounds. Willis picked up 12 points while Barbos (four points, five rebounds), Singer (seven points) and Gina Solis (six rebounds and five points) all played well.

Varsity Girls

• Fairfield 59, Napa 42

Despite the loss, Indians head coach Darci Lewis was pleased with how her team played in Friday’s MEL road game.

“It was a really, really physical game, but our girls played hard the whole game,” Lewis said.

Trella Chrisco scored 12 points to lead the Indians (1-1 MEL, 5-9 overall) and also grabbed three rebounds. Kendall Pelfini added 10 points and six boards while Vanessa Priest (nine points), Nina Pardo (eight points, nine rebounds) and Nichole Weitz (three boards) all played well.

Napa High’s girls basketball team couldn’t have opened its Monticello Empire League season up on a better note.

Despite the glorified-practice atmosphere, the Indians beat Armijo 62-25 in the teams’ second meeting of the season on Tuesday night at Messner Gym.

JV Girls Basketball

• Napa wins tourney title

Napa beat Antioch 44-43, Rodriguez-Cordelia 50-32 and Vintage 42-31 to win the championship at the 2006 Rodriguez JV Tournament last week.

Napa came back from being down with 3.2 seconds to go and beat Antioch on a shot by Tatum Souza, who led the team with 16 points. Gina Solis added seven points and three boards, Maggie Wessell had six points and seven rebounds, and Reyna Chrisco had five points.

• 20th Wine Valley Classic

Justin-Siena defeated Vintage 27-19 in the championship game of the 20th annual Wine Valley Classic tournament Saturday for junior varsity girls basketball teams. Outstanding defense from both teams resulted in a very low-scoring game.

Napa defeated Rodriguez-Cordelia 39-25 in the third-place game, as Shannon Rankin had nine points and Tatum Sousa scored eight to lead the Indians. More Information »

Shannon Rankin had 12 points and Taylor Willis had nine points in Napa’s first-round win in the 20th annual Wine Valley Classic for junior varsity girls basketball teams Thursday at Vintage.

Noelle Roldan and Gina Solis had four steals; Tatum Souza, Shelby Singer and Rankin all had five rebounds; and Singer (four) and Roldan (three) led the way in assists for Napa (2-0).

Freshman Girls Basketball

• Marin Catholic 39, Napa 35

Tay Langfitt led all scorers with 14 points and had six rebounds and Caitlin Buback had six points and seven rebounds for Napa (2-2) in the third-place game of Napa’s tournament Saturday. Langfitt and Haley Oster were
named to the All-Tournament team.

Petaluma won the title and Justin-Siena was second.

Napa girls edged in championship on buzzer-beater...

The Napa High varsity girls basketball team gave up a 2-pointer from the free-throw line as time expired and fell to tournament host Rodriguez, 50-48, in the championship game of the Eagle Eye Engraving Tournament in Fairfield.

The Indians used that day s practice a...Nina Pardo muscles for control of the ball against Armijo during the first round of the Eagle Eye Engraving Tournament at Rodriguez High School in Cordelia. Napa beat Armijo 64-32 and moves on to tonight’s semifinal game against Hogan.
